What is Project Songbird?

Songbird is a CD based on lyrics and poems written by Sandy Denny but never put to music  by her. It is a collaboration between musician and singer/songwriter, Carla Fuchs and Georgia Rose Lucas (Sandy’s daughter).

The title track, Songbird is the only song written entirely (music and lyrics) by Carla as a tribute to Sandy.

The CD is being launched this coming week in Cropredy, Oxfordshire at the Brasennose Fringe Festival (since 1995) – a local off-shoot of the long established Fairport Convention’s Cropredy Festival – alongside a wide variety of artists and acts over several days.

Carla will be performing songs from the album on Thursday, August 10th, from 6:30pm.

She’ll be followed by The Sandy Denny Project and Tom & Rhiannon.

Songbird is further enhanced by an exhibition of Sandy Denny memorabilia – notebooks, dresses, mementos etc.

This exhibition is a first for the Brasenose Fringe. It is hoped that it will attract many of Sandy’s fans – old and new. There will be an exhibition ‘shop’ selling an exhibition catalogue along with postcards of Sandy’s and Georgia’s  artworks; along with Songbird merchandise (T-shirts, tote bags, etc.) including, of course the CD itself.

The exhibition doors will be open between 12 noon and 4pm from Thursday  to Sunday (10th-13th August.) Entry is free.
